The bookmarks area holds the following persistent items (cannot be removed by the user).
The following items are added automatically, but can be removed if desired.
Right clicking on a folder in the files area (files are not supported) will show a menu containing a Add to Bookmarks action. Clicking this will add the item to the bookmarks area. See screenshot below.
Right clicking on an item in the bookmarks area (with the exception of the persistent items) will show a menu containing Remove Bookmark. Clicking this will remove the selected item from the bookmarks area. See screenshot below.
